about

Perhaps subtlety does not seem like the correct word to sum up 13 full length records released in one year by a single group? However, subtlety is in the music itself. Because the music does not rely on repeated chord structures, over repeated chord structures, over repeated lyrics, over repeated melody lines, what remains is a Universe of endless space used to create. Forcing an improvised method to recording and playing has yielded results I was unaware of twenty years ago. Mitch and I rely heavily on that “in the moment” feeling, which is what forces us to think as we play, not exactly knowing what might happen next.

While I have found deep serenity in this type of composition, playing and recording, I have never felt more disconnected to other musicians, people, and worldly structures. It seems as though this type of thinking and feeling breaks down what people think as true or real. Improvisation has been the universal language for me. Imagine meeting someone for the first time, but all of your conversations are scripted, and you can read the script until the end of the day. Would you live out your script, or change it? Because life is not scripted, we all rely on skill sets that allow us to have these types of unscripted conversations. It is these moments of spontaneity and interactions with others, that make up the foundation of our shared life on Earth. It is what moves all things forward.

If you can't hear me in this realm, “I'll see ya next lifetime”.
